White Cane Walks 2017

A Look Back at Our 2017 White Cane and Guide Dog Awareness Events

2017 seems to be moving along at an unbelievable clip. Through the months, ACB of Maine has moved right along with the flurry of days that have found us once again heading into the holiday season.

On October 15th, independent travelers across our great state proudly took part in another white cane and guide dog walk for independence, and as the canes and paws stepped out onto the sidewalks across Maine, their inspiration was felt from Portland to Presque Isle.

This year’s events across the state were a display yet again of the courage, determination and commitment of a blind and visually impaired community that once again set its sights on a goal of camaraderie that reached out into an October morning to promote safe travel for those independent travelers of our roads and thoroughfares in and around the Pine Tree State.

With events in Portland, Augusta, Dover Foxcroft, Bangor and Presque Isle, 2017 proved to be yet another great turn out for this growing event.

The blind community across the state was proud to take part in this years walks which were sponsored by such organizations as the Iris Network, Pine Tree Guide Dog Users, and of course, our own ACB of Maine.

The steps were quick, the talk was lively, the coffee was hot and the atmosphere was outdone only by the attitude of those who came out for another wonderful October trek.

Thanks to all those who took part in this year’s occasion, and all of us at ACB of Maine look forward to hitting the sidewalks and crosswalks again next year.

Take good care, and go grab yourself an ACB day!
